Silence in the Mountains

Join us for a silent weekend meditation retreat in the Craigieburn Mountain Ranges just 90 minutes from Christchurch. Being on retreat is a special time to take ourselves away from our usual routines and busy lives.

On this retreat our Resident Teacher and Buddhist Nun, Gen Kelsang Luma will teach and guide one of the most renowned ancient meditations taught by Buddha known as “taking and giving.” This practice will bring you inner peace and happiness, improve your concentration, strengthen your love, compassion, and wisdom, and give great meaning to your life and to others.

Silence will be observed for the entire retreat. Keeping silence will allow you to experience a deeper level of inner peace and stillness. Each session includes a teaching and guided meditation.

The Retreat begins with dinner on Friday at 6.30pm and finishes on Sunday at 2.00pm. The Retreat is suitable for beginners and those who are more advanced.

Venue

The retreat will be held at the Environmental Education Centre in the Craigieburn Forest Park, just 90 minutes drive from Christchurch. The area around the Lodge is particularly tranquil and conducive to meditation. There is plenty of time for doing walks or to simply enjoy the stillness of the mountains.

The Teacher

Gen Kelsang Luma is a Buddhist nun and the Resident Teacher of Kalpa Bhadra Buddhist Centre in Christchurch and is Geshe-la’s representative in the South Island. She has been ordained under Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche for 20 years and has dedicated her life to studying and practicing his instructions and helping people solve their problems through Buddha’s timeless instructions. Gen Luma gives clear and practical teachings, sharing her deep understanding of the Buddhist path.
